The EMILY Gift
and happy birthday to you Emily!
Dearest Seekers,
Emily gifted us with her wonderful, sparkling presence, and sometimes wild spirit, in my weekly meditation circle for at least three years. She was a gatekeeper and deeply valued and loved in our community. She was an artist, poet, and animal lover (and much more), and she is sorely missed. It is Emily’s 23rd birthday today, and it feels right to honor her and give her short and magical life even more purpose and meaning.
Emily was a seeker, like many of us, who wrangled with the polarity of life, like all of us, but danced wholeheartedly with the magic anyway. I believe our circles helped her navigate both the light and the dark as we breathed and moved through the vicissitudes of life. We had discussed her attending the healer training, but fate took this opportunity away from both her and us.
I would like to offer a scholarship gift to anyone under the age of 25 who would like to train in breathwork with me, or in another program I may offer going forward. The Emily Gift is intended to reach someone who might want to go on to help others, or simply to heal themselves deeply. Even if the training just cracks the door open, it will be worthwhile. That said, our planet needs as many hands-on, non-tech, heart-opening healing modalities as possible these days. And especially for those just emerging into adulthood, ages 18 to 25, I am speaking to you. It is not a full scholarship, as it is vital that you are as invested in yourself as I am going to be. My spiritual path began at the age of 21, this is a great age to begin!
Please share this opportunity with anyone who might be interested. It could change their life, as mine was changed.
Love,
Emma x
Emily Beutner, artist, healer, poet, crocheter, daughter, dancer, sister, friend, tea-maker, Earth Angel, and now our teacher, we love and honor you so.
Below are two poems I read at the memorial, an excerpt from Kae Tempest’s Hold Your Own (which inspired Emily’s drawing shown here with the same title) and one of Emily’s many poems:
But, when time pulls lives apart
Hold your own
When everything is fluid, nothing can be known with any certainty
Hold your own
Hold it till you feel it there
As dark and dense and wet as earth
As vast and bright and sweet as air
When all there is is knowing that you feel what you are feeling
Hold your own
Emily Beutner - August 25th, 2024
I remember when I met God
He appeared to me in a vision
“What is it that you’re missing” she asked,
“that you’ve been so desperately yearning for?”
“I don’t know,” I said, “I just know that when I find it, I can be happy.”
“It’s me,” God said. “I’m what you’ve been looking for. I’m what you need.”
“Then where the fuck have you been?
Where were you when I needed you?
Why did you abandon me?”
“Silly kid”, said God.
“Can’t you see that I’ve been here this whole time?
I’ve brushed your hair
I’ve laid in bed with you
I’ve held you when you cried
I’ve danced with you
I’ve made art with you
“I’ve never left you, I’m aIways here, you just have to look for me.
Don’t get caught up in the weeds,”
After that, I started to look
And after that, I started to see
And after that, I started to feel
How silly of me to think I was alone all those years!
